April 6, 2020 Online Learning - Gratitude Project and New Calendar Help Hi Lancer Families!! Hang in there Lancer Families - we love and miss you!!! Gratitude Project: Why: As we go through this worldwide pandemic. all of our lives have been impacted. This Project will give our students the opportunity to give back to those who are going above and beyond to keep us safe. This project gives the students a chance to demonstrate empathy, gratefulness, kindness, and caring. What: Students are being asked to create in whatever format that speaks to them a way to say thank you. A poem, song, letter, picture, photograph. whatever media they wish to choose. Who: Our students and you as a family member, are the creators. We will then share out all of the artifacts that we collect to our community members like, nurses, Drs, food service employees, UPS drivers, and others. The more artifacts we get the more we can share. Where: Once you or your child has created an artifact upload it to this link and we will sort them to send them out. Everyone in the family can participate and create. See a simple example of what could be submitted below. As you know we remain out of school until April 15th. As we continue to have school online, we as a staff continue to work on ways to make the communication more consistent and organized. Continue to reinforce with your children not to get stressed about the work assigned and make sure if they are stressed to contact their teachers. As we extend our time with online learning, please remember that teachers will revisit the material. The teachers are also learning this "new normal" and expect to hear from the students. Please encourage your children to get online and do the best work possible. If getting online does nothing else, it will get them reconnected with teachers and their classmates, which should help with their mental health. March 26, 2020 Please see the following video from Ms. Sloane: March 23, 2020 To Our Lancer Family, We are sure that over the last week yMaou have been feeling theimpact of school closing and how it has disrupted your lives. We want you to know that the adults in your lives, whether at school, in your home, or the community, care a great deal about you! Closing school and cancelling the events is a way to keep you and the wider community healthy and safe, because that is our number one priority. Several students have questions about the impact of the Coronavirus on future school events. Currently, we have canceled what we were mandated to through April 1st. Outside of that timeline, some trips after April 1st were cancelled by sponsoring agencies or because they include going to locations where we will not be able to travel. Please understand that the recommendations to postpone or cancel events were made by the medical professionals at the county and state level with everyone’s safety in mind. We also know that the effort to slow the spread of the virus may lead to more adjustments, postponements, and cancellations in the future. If that happens, we will continue to reschedule as much as we can. You are important and we want you to be honored and celebrated. Free meals are available for people who are eighteen years old and younger at every East Irondequoit School from 11 am – 1 pm each weekday. They are “grab and go”. Meals at EIMS and the elementary schools are being given out of a school bus, follow the signs and look for the bus to pick up meals at those locations. The Eastridge meal location remains the same. Adults may get breakfast ($2) and lunch ($4), too. Sincerely, Mary Grow Chris Sloane East Irondequoit Superintendent EIMS School Principal March 23, 2020 Online Learning - Trying Your Best! As you know this fluid situation is very unique, one I hope we never have to face again ever. The teachers are working diligently to learn how to present content online, manage their own lives, and stay connected with all of our students. We will get through this and we are asking that you try not to stress over the work assigned. Please tell your child to do their best with their assignments (which at this point should be either for review or enrichment), to reach out their teachers on Schoology, and take it one day at a time. Make sure your family time come first, that your child gets outside to play or exercise, and maintains a good attitude about the work in front of them. We will get through this - we are EIMS tough! Hope each of you are staying healthy and taking precautions at home. Gov. Cuomo announced today that schools throughout NY State will be closed at least through Wednesday April 1, 2020 to assist in COVID-19 prevention. Our district will be providing updates as we have them between now and then. A reminder that starting tomorrow, March 17, breakfast for school age children will be offered at no charge from 8AM to 10AM and lunch at no charge from 11AM to 1PM. The price for adult servings will be $2.00 for breakfast and $4.00 for lunch. Please use the Gymnasium parking at the south end of the building and door to enter for pickup. For any student who left an iPad at school, you can pick them up by calling the main office for an appointment between 7:30 and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday 3/17 and Weds. 3/18. After this date we will be delivering them home through our transportation department. All school grounds, including playgrounds, are closed to the public. If you need to pick up your child’s medication, please call the main office at 339-1436 to schedule a pick-up time. If you have any questions or need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me at 339-1436. We will do our best to help during this time of uncertainty. Go Lancers, Chris Sloane
