Kotlin has long been a hot topic in Android development. More and more projects on GitHub are developed with kotlin. But this language has been in a very awkward situation. On the one hand, I spare no effort to explore my own role in Android development, on the other hand, it is not officially supported by the language, resulting in many people actually holding a wait-and-see attitude.
At today's I / O conference, Google announced that kotlin has officially become the official language of Android.
After introducing the debugging tools of Android studio, the speech's aunt continued:
"But there's another thing, something we've never done with developers. We've never added a new development language to Android, but today we're going to make kotlin the officially supported language for Android. "
It can be heard from the speakers that Google's action is to respond to the voice of the development community. After the announcement, there was a lot of applause and enthusiasm. In fact, developers are the basic participants in the conference. Naturally, people are more concerned about development. The previous content is really boring.
With it comes the cooperation between Google and JetBrains, and the CEO of JetBrains is also invited on site.
I have to say that I admire JetBrains. It not only makes the most popular java development tool IntelliJ idea, Android studio is based on the community version of IntelliJ idea, but also creates a language of its own, which allows developers to buy.
But JetBrains is not an American company. It's in Prague, Czech Republic.
Kotlin is safe for those who like to taste it, but it doesn't have to be a burden. Java is still the first language.
Although kotlin is newer than Java language, in fact, this language was recommended as early as 2015. At present, the first one I found to promote kotlin is Antonio Leiva. You can see that his first article on kotlin was published in March 2015. At that time, my first impression of kotlin was not bad. The language style was modern and compatible with Java. Since then, kotlin has become more and more popular. Even Jake Wharton made a special kotlin speech in December 2015, which was recommended by the No. 1 God in Android community. It can be said that at that time, kotlin was basically recognized by foreign high-end developers.
So 2015 is the year of kotlin's rise, and 2016 is the year of accumulation. Whether or not Google recommends kotlin, it will become a popular language. Google just went along with the trend, pushed it, and things just went out of control.
congratulations JetBrains!
